Kazakhstan Weighs Criminal Action Against Influencers Endorsing Online Casinos Amid Ongoing Legal Violations

(Kazakhstan).- Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA) is considering criminal charges against social media influencers who repeatedly promote online casinos, despite a 2024 law banning such advertisements across all media formats.

Kazakhstan Weighs Criminal Action Against Influencers Endorsing Online Casinos Amid Ongoing Legal Violations

34 influencers were identified in early 2025 for promoting online gambling; 11 have already been fined2.

Fines start at 200,000 KZT (≈US$420), but authorities say these penalties are too low to deter repeat offenders.

The FMA is exploring whether such promotions could be classified as aiding illegal gambling, a charge that carries criminal penalties similar to those for financial pyramid schemes3.

Over 17,000 illegal gambling links have been blocked this year, and 224 individuals have faced criminal liability since 2022.

Officials argue that tougher enforcement is needed as influencers continue to profit from illegal promotions, often treating fines as routine expenses. If criminal penalties are introduced, it would mark a significant shift in Kazakhstan’s approach to online gambling regulation.
